Euthanasia Services for Pets

Providing compassionate care, support, and guidance during a difficult time.

All pet owners wish their loyal companion could live forever, but sadly this isn't possible. Losing your pet is like losing a loved one, and we understand how painful it is to cope without them. At Wellesley Animal Hospital, we want to offer you support and ensure you have all the information to make the best decision for your pet.

What happens during the procedure?

Euthanasia is a medical process used to humanely and peacefully end a patient's life. Before your pet is euthanized, we inform you of what to expect from the procedure. As it is the final goodbye, we allow you to spend a few minutes with your pet before proceeding. The veterinarian will administer the injection intravenously, taking effect within minutes. Please rest assured that your pet doesn't feel any pain during this process.

How do I know when to consider euthanasia?

Euthanasia is a tough decision to make for your loyal companion, but there are signs that indicate they are at the end of their life. In the final stage of their life, your pet will eat less, be withdrawn, or become less affectionate - these are signs that their quality of life is getting low. Our veterinarians recommend euthanasia when your pet suffers from chronic pain or traumatic injuries, and no other treatments can improve their condition.

How can I cope with the loss of my pet?

The grieving process will look different for each person, but it helps when you have support. We encourage our clients to spend quality time with their pets before the procedure, and we can suggest ways to memorialize them. We hope you find some comfort and support during this difficult time. We have seen these groups help people in similar situations through the years:
