Cardiology Services for Pets

Call us to schedule your pet's next cardiac checkup.

Heart issues can cause other health problems and shorten your pet's lifespan. For this reason, it's important for your pet to have bi-annual checkups to detect heart problems. Here at Wellesley Animal Hospital, our cardiac services are performed off-site, which means we don't offer same-day service. To schedule a cardiac checkup for your pet, please call us at 416-966-1830.

What are the signs of cardiac issues in pets?

Because the heart and lungs are correlated, the lungs are also affected when there is a problem with the heart. This means your pet may experience:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Weight loss
  • Unwillingness to do activities
  • Fatigue
  • Persistent cough
  • Fainting or collapsing

What causes my pet to develop cardiac problems?

Some cardiac issues in pets are caused by their lifestyle, while others are inherited. Your pet's weight and diet can contribute to them having heart problems. Parasites like heartworms cause serious problems for pets, primarily dogs. An infestation can cause blockages and prevent the heart from functioning properly.

What treatment options are available for my pet?

There are different approaches to treating cardiac issues in pets. The veterinarian will consider the severity of the disease and determine which treatment is best. Your pet may need surgery, diet changes, or medication. If your pet's heart issues are due to heartworms, they will need treatment to rid them of the worms.
